New tools for Mama Noume and her kids

    Day 232

    Stitching Together

Now that we’ve got a roof over Mama Noume’s new house, it’s time to get the inside outfitted!

Mama Noume opens up her home for young women learning new skills, and one of the things she teaches is how to sew reusable sanitary pads. But she told us her biggest challenge is maintaining sewing machines that don’t break down easily. We thought we could help!

We went into town to find the best sewing machines we could…A lot of people sell these machines, but they’re not always very high quality.

Using the skillful eye of Andrew, one of our team members in Uganda, we found just the thing.

It was a Singer sewing machine, and these babies are built to last – and that’s exactly what we wanted!

We were able to pick up three new sewing machines which allowed Mama Noume to double the number of students she was able to teach.

These new machines will have double the impact for Mama Noume and her foster girls. Now over the course of a year, many more women will be able to learn valuable skills and support themselves as they get back on their feet.
