The Nakivale library is a relatively new addition to the settlement. Because reading is some important to youth development the library is always looking for new ways to bring young people in. Cue the creative corner!

Today, Changemakers 365 brings us to Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement. Mr. Amani Musa, a refugee recently relocated to a new village in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, lives with his three daughters. He and his daughters were living in dilapidated shelter; covered by a tarp and maize-stems to shield them from the cold in the night. The house was much too small for a family of this size and was in need of some serious improvements. Upon seeing the shelter Amani and his family were living in, our team knew what they had to do. We had to provide a new shelter. Lens on Life is an organization working to support photography and computer literacy training for at-risk youth around the world. They help students overcome trauma, grow artistically, and gain skills to enter the global marketplace. Luckily for us, one of their hubs is based in Goma! And for this round of Changemakers 365, we wanted to show our support—by hiring them to help document the past 30 days of change. 

“They are often single mothers who have families to support,” said Bernadette from the DFJ office in Nyiragongo, about 30 minutes outside of Goma. “They need to have more ways to earn a living.”
