Sometimes you just need to take a moment and celebrate – and that’s especially true for our teams who struggle with some pretty challenging problems day-in and day-out. So that’s just what the Questscope team in Jordan did on Day 271 in honor of World Humanitarian Day (Questscope is ARC’s partner organization, working with youth in Jordan and Germany).
The Questscope team assembled in the office courtyard (see Day 227) for a social hour. They purchased a cake and some other refreshments to mark the occasion. Dr. Curt Rhodes, Questscope’s International Director, spoke about the founding of the organization and the important work they were all doing. He invited anyone who wanted to share their experience working with refugees, and six team members shared their very moving stories and thoughts about humanitarianism.
“I believe it is very important to exchange ideas and experiences and to share them with others,” said Mazen Rehan, who organized the gathering. “Our staff were really touched by the speeches they heard. Such events will remind everyone of what is important and give it more attention in their jobs and in their life.”
As the gathering came to a close, each member of the team received a small succulent plant to take home with them or keep at their desk – – in appreciation for their hard work and dedication and encouragement to keep going. A card nestled next to each plant read, “Desert plants need little to survive. Give a little for the survival of others.”
