Private citizens can now sponsor refugees in the U.S

On January 19, 2023, the State Department announced the launch of Welcome Corps, a new U.S. government program that allows everyday Americans to privately sponsor refugees from around the world. Alight is proud to be named as one of the inaugural Private Sponsor Organizations (PSOs) supporting the launch of Welcome Corps, alongside incredible organizations such as Every Campus A Refuge, HIAS, Home for Refugees USA, IRIS – Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, the International Rescue Committee, Rainbow Railroad, and WelcomeNST. As a PSO, Alight will be responsible for mobilizing, training, and guiding individuals who are interested in becoming sponsors.  

Alight has deep experience working with volunteers and sponsor groups in the U.S. to welcome and support families displaced by conflict, disaster, or persecution. Through our Alight Guides program, we support sponsor groups through every step of the process.

Private sponsorship provides a meaningful way for Americans to help families that have had to leave their lives behind. Sponsorship is the ultimate neighborly act and can be a wonderful, joyous, transformative experience – for newcomers and the Welcomer.
