The hearts of Alight colleagues all over the world are with Rohingya refugees in Balukhali Refugee Camp right now as they contend with the impact of a devastating fire. The fire swept through the camp quickly, engulfing homes and buildings. The extent of the devastation is unclear at this point, as no deaths were immediately reported. But what is certain is that given the already precarious situation Rohingya refugees find themselves in, this is yet another blow to the painful healing process.
This camp and others located in Cox’s Bazar are home to more than a million refugees. Although Alight does not currently have a presence in Balukhali, Alight teams worked with Rohingya refugees in the region for several years immediately following the 2017 Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. We’re currently monitoring the situation, and will respond if necessary.
We stand by refugees and displaced people everywhere, and Rohingya refugees are no different. Our thoughts are with them now and always.
