Hello again from Garowe, a city in the Northeastern region of Somalia. We’re spending a few days here, helping small shop owners around the city stretch their resources further to grow their businesses!
We’ve so far met Halimo, Hamdi and Fatima, who have expressed some similar needs, especially when it comes to diversifying their shop offerings. As a part of this, both Fatima and Hamdi mentioned wanting a refrigerator that would make it possible to offer chilled foods and beverages to their customers. This is a big step up, and offers a competitive edge in a place where many shops don’t have this luxury.
So we decided to take both Fatima and Hamdi out to pick out fridges! After evaluating the options, they both settled on the same one. Right away, they each took their fridges back to their shops to get this new era of their businesses started.

Meet Sam!
Sam developed an interest in forced displacement, food insecurity, and identity while working on her master’s degree. She’s now using this knowledge to support Changemakers 365 across our country programs. When she’s not off on a work trip, she’s busy fermenting beverages, training for half marathons, or listening to podcasts at her home in Minneapolis.
