Making the reception center experience better

    Day 280

The Last Stop on the Journey

Imagine fleeing your home, children in tow, not knowing exactly where you’ll end up. There are so many unknowns…where will I sleep? How will I feed my family? What comes next?

Many refugees escaping violence in South Sudan are coming to Uganda. They eventually land in refugee settlements – like Palabek – where they’re first welcomed at a reception center. That’s where many of their most pressing questions are answered. It’s the first point of contact for their new lives.

As you can probably imagine, the entire journey can be a terrifying and worrying time. Our team in Palabek wanted to do their part to make the final step in that journey – the reception center – the best experience possible.

Most refugees flee with almost nothing, so when they reach the reception center they don’t have any of the basic necessities. One thing we can do to help make things better? Something simple – soap.

We brought boxes and boxes of soap to the reception center. And it’ll will go a long way in making newly arrived refugees feel that at least during this difficult time, they can at least feel a little bit like themselves again.

Soap can make the reception center much more safe – and simply a better place to be.

This change made possible by Atomic Data.
